The Military Caucus for the South Carolina House of Representatives held its first meeting of the 125th S.C. General Assembly on Thursday, January 26, 2023. The military caucus is comprised of bi-partisan members from the House of Representatives. The Military Caucus promotes and advocates for military-friendly legislation for the state of South Carolina and was founded in 2018. Representative Doug Gilliam was nominated and elected as the new chairman, Representative and Reaganite, David O’Neal as vice-chairman and Representative Melissa Oremus as caucus whip.
The Adjutant General for South Carolina, U.S. Army Major General R. Van McCarty, was the guest speaker at the caucus meeting and discussed the South Carolina Military Department’s mission, current operations, and state budgetary priorities for FY ’23-’24.
