South Carolina saw drug overdose deaths rise by over 25% in 2021 according to a report by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.  The overdose deaths are fueled by the flow of fentanyl across our southern border.  According to the report, South Carolina had 2,168 deaths due to drug overdose in 2021, an increase of 430 deaths compared to 2020.  Of the 2,168 deaths statewide, 1,494 were due to fentanyl.

In York County there were 115 drug overdose deaths and 89 of those were due to fentanyl overdoses.

Thankfully the Republicans in the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize this problem and passed the Trafficking in Fentanyl Bill (H. 3503). The Bill was unanimously supported by the House Republicans.
