On March 8, 2023, the SC House passed the “CLEMENTA C. PINCKNEY HATE CRIMES ACT.” Conservatives were able to remove section 2, that defined sex as gender, but gender is a still a protected class under this bill. There are numerous concerns with this language, especially as it pertains to religious freedom and churches. Thank you to Representatives O’Neal, Felder and Guffey for standing for religious freedom and voting against this bill.
