On April 26, 2023 the SC House passed the Education Scholarship Trust Fund, S. 39 by a vote of 79-35. The bill was previously passed in the Senate on January 31, 2023 and will become law when Governor McMaster signs the bill. This school choice bill will provide scholarships to students of families whose income does not exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The scholarship funds can be used for tuition at private and parochial schools, as well as tutoring, transportation, textbooks and fees to take standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT.
