On May 11, 2023, Gavin’s law passed the SC Senate. Previously known as H. 3583 Sexual Extortion the bill will now head to the Governor’s desk for signature. The bill is known as Gavin’s Bill to honor Representative Brandon Guffey’s son who took his own life after being a victim of Sexual Extortion makes it a crime to ” intentionally and maliciously threatens to release private images of another in order to compel or attempt to compel the victim to do any act or refrain from doing any act against his will with the intent to obtain additional private images or anything else of value.”
Senator Wes Climer offered an amendment to formally change the name of the bill to Gavin’s Law and it passed the Senator Unanimously.
