On April 6, 2023 the SC House of Representatives passed the ESG Pension Protection Act H. 3690 that prohibits the State retirement system from investing in funds or companies that use Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) as a measurement. The law requires that only pecuniary factors may be considered in making investment decisions. The York County Republican Representatives all voted in favor. The bill has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
